To archive its aims and objectives, ME Network, generally, is conducting and attempting to conduct training and teach migrant workers in and around Mahachai area of Thailand. More specifically, ME Network have established a nursery school at Wat Bang Rai Mon temple. At the moment, around 30 migrant children are still studying at that school, and they are learning speak, read, and write Mon, Thai, and English Languages. In the very near future, they would also be able to study Mathematics. At the end of this month, ME Network will also initiate a school for migrant workers who would like to learn English and Computer.

To achieve its goals, ME Network would also help those who would like to study at the university level. This could be done through sharing necessary information about university entrance, financial cost, education structure, the subjects available, and through helping in the process of scholarship application.

ME Network would like to invite everyone who are interested in our work to join in our network and help improve education for our Mon people.

THE STATEMENT ON THE 61ST ANNIVERSARY OF MON REVOLUTION DAY MON EDUCATION NETWORK

Today is the 61^st Anniversary of Mon Revolution Day. On this memorable day, we pay tributes to those who have sacrificed their lives and those who are still struggling to achieve our ultimate victory, self-determination.

Since Burma gained her independence, the rights of non-Burmese ethnic nationalities, including the rights of Mon people, have immediately been ignored by every governments of Burma; AFPFL, BSPP, SLORC, and SPDC. Instead of granting their rights of self-determination, those governments have brutally oppressed the people by every possible means.

In order to be free from these brutalities and regain our natural rights of self-determination, our leaders from different periods of time have taken different responsibilities and have sacrificed their lives. Indeed, our leaders have taken responsibilities to regain our sovereignty not only after the independence of Burma, but since the fallen time of Hongsawatoi Kingdom. We, all the Mon people, greatly owed gratitude to these leaders, and therefore respectfully pay tributes to these great leaders.

On this special occasion, we earnestly urge all Mon people throughout the world;

1) To take whatever responsibilities we could in struggling for our freedom which is the primary goal of our leaders.

2) To build a unity among our Mon people and with other ethnic nationalities so that our struggling could be more effective.

We strongly demand government of Burma;

1) To freely allow ethnic nationalities to teach their language and

2) To freely allow ethnic nationalities to conduct their cultural and traditional activities in their respective states or areas.

Background of establishing the Network

After decades of the military rule, the whole education system in Burma has suffered a serious problem. This negative aspect of education leads young people in the country to find ways to go outside in search of better education. Under this situation, youths from Mon State and Mon society also have dreams to be able to achieve a better and higher education outside the country. However, due to the lack of adequate information, contact, and financial assistance, many are unable to achieve their dreams. Mon Education Network (M.E. Network) therefore, is established in order to fulfill this gap and provide what are necessary for the Mon youths to find a better education.
